Now that the closet detox has been done (or is currently underway) ... Do you know how to curate a classic wardrobe? One that you can build on season to season and incorporate current trends?
Curate a collection of 15 pieces, that speak to your style AND allow you create more than 50 outfits. Pieces that will be Classic & Trendy and can be used for Work & Play!
Basic Tees (and lots of them)
When can’t you wear a white t-shirt? It’s should be a staple in every woman’s wardrobe. Pair it with your favorite pair of denim, a great jacket, or with leggings. Any way you style it, a basic tee is a must. (basic tee also includes a great graphic as well)
Quality Denim
Jeans are an everyday staple that can be worn to virtually every occasion. Have a variety of washes; light wash, medium, dark, and black.
Blazer
When adding a blazer to your wardrobe, the key is to look for a blazer that you can layer with any top - whether a basic tee or a blouse. It’s all about versatility ... and investing in pieces that do it all!
Leather Jacket
A quality leather jacket is one of the smartest investment pieces for your wardrobe. Throw it over a basic tee and jeans for an instant style boost or pair it with your work-wear look for an edgy finish. A black leather jacket is an absolute must-have!
Utility Jacket
While it may not be an "essential" item. It literally goes with every single item in your closet to create the perfect casual outfit.
Knit Sweater
The right knit sweater works with everything! From a pair of broken-in boyfriend jeans for the weekend to a pleated, feminine skirt for a night out. If you find one you like, get one in every color.
Cardigan
Cardigans are fabulous outerwear pieces. They are especially good in the fall and winter months - warm and cozy. Depending on the occasion you are dressing for, the cardigan will create either a dressy or casual outfit.
Button-up Shirt
While this trend may have been "borrowed" from the boys ... we set it up better with prints and colors! This shirt always provides a balance between looking casual and polished. Wear it with jeans or a pencil skirt depending on where you need to be.
Little Black Dress
Really ...no explanation necessary. The LBD is iconic! Date-night essential and the ultimate “I have nothing to wear” throw-on-and-go piece. A little black dress is a true must-have in every wardrobe.
Knee Length Skirt
A knee-length skirt is what I like to call a WIN - WIN! It's versatile enough to be casual, yet work-friendly and appropriate for more formal settings.
Lingerie
Committing to all of these wardrobe staples is great, but don’t forget about your most important layer ... the base layer! Lingerie are the pieces no one wants to spend money on, but the right bra and cami make your clothes look better. Even if you don't go sexy, a pretty set always makes you feel confident AND a little more special.
Work Tote
Invest in a solid tote that you can carry from work to drinks, or take on a weekend getaway. A couple features you should look for in a tote bag; enough room for a laptop and interior pocket(s) to store your smaller essentials.
Sunglasses
If you are like me, odds are, you have a pile of sunglasses you’ve collected over the years, but reach for the same pair every time you leave the house. Consider donating all of them and just holding onto one or two classic styles such as an aviator or retro square pair. Experiment, but the trends fall out of style. Stick with the classics.
Simple Flats & Pumps
Do you have that one pair of flats that work with everything? If not, you need them! You know the ones that take you from jeans and a tee to a simple black dress and can be worn from work to drinks. A pair of simple ballet flats will carry you through the seasons ...and years. The same applies to a killer pair of heels. A classic pair of pumps will never fail you or your outfits. The perfect shoe for your 9 to 5, happy hour, and date night! Invest in a quality pair that you feel comfortable and confident in.
White Sneakers Stylish and comfy! These can be worn with everything from jeans to jumpsuits to knit dresses.
